The Yalberton Valley Action Group has been formed to stop the development of the Yalberton Valley, an area designated as of great landscape value.
This lovely valley lies on the western fringes of Paignton, part of Torbay in south Devon.
Torbay Council planners have proposed the destruction of this beautiful valley, by building up to 1000 homes for some 5000 people and create a new town. They are also proposing to build more industrial units and are looking at the valley as the possible site of a new incinerator to burn the waste of Torbay.
A key part of the proposal is the re-instatement of the Westerland Valley ring road extension, dropped on environmental grounds many years ago, to enable the extra traffic that will be generated, to access the area.
These proposals will mean the destruction of many ancient apple orchards and the wide variety of wild life they support. It will also bring to an end a 500 year old tradition of cider making in the valley.
We have had lots of e-mails of support for our campaign as well as offers of help.
